Plan a visit to the Lincolnshire Wolds

The Lincolnshire Wolds is a nationally important and cherished landscape. Part of it was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1973.

This wonderful landscape has been moulded through the Ice Ages and now offers some of the most wonderful scenic views with rolling chalk hills and intimate valleys with sandstone and clay that underlie this attractive landscape.

This part of Lincolnshire is rich in nature and we treasure the heritage that both time and our ancestors have left to us.  Perfect for nature lovers, sport lovers, and not forgetting, the traditional family fun of our coastal resorts, there really is something for everyone.

There are several market towns in the area that offer a variety of places to visit which together with the attractive landscape makes the Wolds an ideal place to visit.  Somersby is made up of a few houses clustering around the church where Dr George Clayton Tennyson, Alfred Tennyson’s father, was rector.  Somersby Rectory, across the lane from the church and where the eleven Tennyson children grew up, is now a private house.

If you enjoy walking, see more information about a number of circular walks that explore the landscape of this varied countryside.
