Mablethorpe
The so-called “Star of the East”, Mablethorpe is an idyllic spot for family holidays. An expanse of clean, wide sandy beaches and dunes are perfect for carefree hours spent messing about with buckets, spades and trouser legs rolled up to your knees.
A lively extension of the fun in Skegness but with a personality all of its own, Mablethorpe has a Seal Sanctuary, Funfair, Loewen Cinema with 3D digital screen and a variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Queens Park, just around the corner, boasts a boating lake, putting green and Thomas the Tank Engine miniature railway.
In the winter you can rev up for some motorbike sand racing, or go indoors with motorcar model racing at On Your Marques, the model car museum.

But amid all the quintessentially British, old-fashioned charm of Mablethorpe there’s also a contemporary air about the place…
The annual Bathing Beauties Festival, launched in 2007, is the UK’s first beach hut festival and sees innovative designers re-imagine the often unloved wooden beach hut for the 21st century. Their creations included futuristic, multi-coloured, curvaceous shapes – and one eco-friendly hut that looked like a gin and tonic with two straws and a swizzle stick.
The huts are available for hire for a day or a stay, and offer a rare chance to inhabit a piece of art. The festival includes music, poetry, fire performances, film and drama and culminates in a fantastic firework display on the beach. Turn up and be dazzled!
