The HUB - 'The Centre for Craft, Design and Making'
Opening in October 2003, The Hub will be a 21st-century arts and exhibition centre that will be the envy of the East Midlands region, bringing top class crafts to the area. The £2.4 million project sees the refurbishment of the former seed warehouse in Navigation Yard, Sleaford and involves quite substantial rebuilding. The centre will be the largest dedicated contemporary craft exhibition gallery in the country and will also house a visitor centre and education space.
The former canal office, built in 1838, is a Grade II listed building. When refurbished, Navigation House will introduce visitors to the early success of Sleaford and its canal before the railway came to town. The Hub will also provide touch-screen computer terminals which will provide information to the public about the exhibition programme and links to related web sites.
