Possessing magnificent architectural heritage, centred on its world famous Cathedral and Castle, Lincoln is a vivacious City – mixing 2000 years of heritage with excellent shopping facilities and a lively arts and events programme.
The historic Cathedral Quarter is close to some of the major attractions and offers the visitor a unique shopping experience. Many fine specialist shops including boutiques, antique, craft, book and gift shops line the cobbled streets.
- Lincoln Cathedral. Lincoln Cathedral is one of the finest medieval buildings in Europe, towering above Lincoln as a prominent landmark for miles around. The Cathedral has been a place of worship for almost 1000 years, and more recently has become the set of Westminster Abbey in the Blockbuster movie, The Da Vinci Code.
- Lincoln Castle. William The Conquerer's Castle is home to one of only 4 remaining original copies of the Magna Carta. Lincoln Castle also presents a full and varied events programme every year. Usually running from April to the end of August, visitors to Lincoln Castle can experience Medieval Jousting, Historical Re-enactments, children's Fun Days, Open-air Theatre and Pop and Rock Concerts.
- The Lawn. As the name suggests, The Lawn is a spacious complex set in relaxing grounds that extend to eight acres. The Joseph Banks conservatory or tropical house is home to a wonderful selection of flora reminiscent of Banks' voyage of discovery. Also at The Lawn is the John Dawber Garden which includes a sensory area together with areas representative of Lincoln's twin town of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany and its Friendship City of Tangshan in China.
There are many more attractions, shops, restaurants and much more in the Cathedral Quarter and is a must when visiting Lincoln.
