This huge part of the county is definitely at the heart of English Golf.
With the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa you have arguably the best course in the county and indeed one of the finest courses in the world. If you only play one course while you are here The Hotchkin at Woodhall Spa has to be it. We are sure that you’ll be playing more than once however and if you are in the Wolds there are a selection of other courses to tempt you.
Near to Woodhall you will find golf at Horncastle Country Club and South Kyme while in and around Louth – the Capital of the Wolds – there are three courses to choose from. Louth Golf Club offers a physically demanding 18-holes with stunning views that stretch to the coast on a sunny day. Kenwick Park Hotel combines great accommodation with a course that winds its way through the natural woodland. Finally just outside Alford you’ll find Woodthorpe Hall – country cottages with an accompanying golf course, fishing lake and garden centre.
In terms of additional things to do this is walking country … with numerous routes that explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty can be assured of idyllic scenery … if you plan your route well you’ll be able to stop off at one of our country pubs for a locally sourced lunch. If it's local produce you are looking for then head straight to any of the Wolds market towns from Louth to Horncastle, Alford to Spilsby we’ve got some of the best local butchers, bakers and greengrocers around.
If you prefer something with a bit more heritage then in Alford you should head for the Manor House, and Five Sailed Windmill. In Louth you will find the Tardis-like Louth Museum fascinating while a climb of the tower at St James’ Church takes you up the tallest medieval parish spire in the country. Horncastle is the county’s antiques hub with numerous dealers and centres dotted around the town. Finally in Woodhall Spa you can enjoy a film at the unique Kinema in the Woods before a trip to nearby Conningsby to marvel at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – home to the UK’s only flying Lancaster bomber.
