The Hereward Way is a long distance footpath some 110 miles in length that passes through Stamford. It stretches from Oakham to Harling Road Station in Norfolk. It gets its name from Hereward the Wake, an 11th Century leader who fought against William the Conqueror. His base was located on the Isle of Ely which is near to the middle of the route.
