Lincolnshire is fast developing a national reputation for its varied and vibrant arts and entertainment scene.

How about turning the clock back to the golden age of cinema at the wonderfully named Kinema in the Woods, at Woodhall Spa, which celebrated its 90th birthday in 2012? What must be one of the most unusual cinemas in the country, it's surrounded by woodland and the UK's only full-time cinema still using rear projection; and has been showing films since 1922.

Open air theatre more your style? Try one of Europe's finest, The Stamford Shakespeare Company, whose Rutland Open Air Theatre in the grounds of historic Tolethorpe Hall offers plays on a stage set in an enchanting glade each summer.

For more modern and cosmopolitan entertainment, there's plenty to tempt in Lincoln.

The recently refurnished Theatre Royal plays host to a wide range of performing arts from ballet and opera to drama and comedy with tribute bands, pantomime and more while new state-of-the-art performance venue The Lincoln Performing Arts Centre brings national and international quality theatre, music, dance, film and talks.

There's more premier live entertainment at The Engine Shed, Lincoln's largest live music and entertainment venue, which has welcomed bands such as Kings of Leon, Stereophonics, Kasabian and Plan B as well as amazing DJs such as Annie Mac, Fatboy Slim and Zane Lowe.
