Churches & Lincoln Cathedral

"Lincolnshire churches cannot be bettered”

Said journalist Simon Jenkins in his book on England’s Thousand Best Churches.

From the majestic, imposing, world-class beauty of the Cathedral that towers over Lincoln, to churches spanning centuries of history, there are plenty, large and small, to discover.

You’ll find superb examples of Saxon, Norman, Gothic, medieval and modern church buildings, and a warm welcome from those inside. Reflect on ages gone by and take time out from 21st century pressures to find peace and tranquility.

Stamford Churches

Not far from Crowland just off the A1 is a town that combines medieval imagination with Georgian refinement. It is the estate town of nearby Burghley House; it has played a role in films such as Pride and Prejudice, and it is beautiful.

Stamford is perhaps the finest stone town in England and its churches are simply stunning. So stunning, in fact, that J.M.W. Turner chose to depict them in one of his much-loved watercolours, now in the Usher Gallery, Lincoln.
