Wake up to Cleethorpes Tourism Awards 2010
Best Attraction/Experience GOLD

Multi-award winning museum recreating Grimsby's maritime history. Tour includes a recreation of a 1950s voyage to fishing grounds, through the trawler, with authentic aromas and moving deck, and scenes from the street and home life of old Grimsby. A series of temporary exhibitions will be open through the summer and the winter. The museum also holds a collection of historic vessels in the adjacent dock.

Prepare to be blasted by freezing winds and lashing rain, feel the trawler decks heave and moan beneath your feet. Fishing has been described as one of the toughest jobs in the world; this award winning centre invites you to sign on as a crew member for a journey of discovery that will take you to the edge of disaster and the extremes of the elements to witness first hand the depths of human endurance. Pit your wits and strengths against the interactive games and displays as you rise to the challenge of navigating the icy waters.

Plot your course in search of the catch as you take the wheel in the Skipper's wheelhouse and experience the rolling seas, the urgency and excitement of the catch, the raw blasts of the winds, cramped living conditions and the heat of the engine room.

Safely back on 'dry land', explore the reconstructions of the twisting back streets and alleys of 1950's Grimsby; peep into the living room, join the fishermen in the Freeman's Arms, visit the dockside shops and join the queue at the 'Settling Office' to collect your pay.

Remember to get a timed ticket to go on board the Ross Tiger Trawler moored adjacent to the centre. Explore the inside and imagine what it would be like out at a sea. Then return to the centre for refreshments.

Souvenirs are available in the gift shop.
