VisitEngland has today announced that Lincolnshire’s International Bomber Command Centre will go forward to compete for the tourism industry’s annual national Awards for Excellence.
“These awards celebrate businesses and individuals in tourism across England who have exceeded expectations and delivered excellence during the last 18 months and it is fantastic to see such an outstanding list of finalists” Said VisitEngland Chief Executive Sally Balcombe.
“The impressive list reflects the sheer scale of innovation, quality and experiences across our tourism landscape and I congratulate all the finalists and wish them the very best of luck.
“Millions of jobs and local economies depend on tourism and this year’s awards are also a timely opportunity to acknowledge the determination and dedication of tourism businesses across the country who have worked extremely hard to reopen and welcome visitors back safely.”
Visit Lincoln put forward applications for national judging from the winners of the Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence Awards on 12th March, sponsored by LNER. The event took place at DoubleTree by Hilton Lincoln and organised by Lincolnshire Live and Lincolnshire Echo in partnership with Visit Lincoln.
Melvyn Prior of BBC Radio Lincolnshire hosted the prestigious evening, that attracted more that 200 guests and a record number of remarkable applications, and Mark Plowright, Head of Sales and Distribution from LNER, provided the keynote speech as headline sponsor.
All 53 finalists from the 15 core categories were forwarded to the national Awards for Excellence as eligible winners from 18 local competitions across England, and will be awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold award at the virtual ceremony in August.

The International Bomber Command Centre welcomes 100,000 visitors each year at the Memorial Spire and The Chadwick Centre since 2016, and has gone on to win a total of 16 awards. Previous awards include the prestigious National Heritage Excellence Award , for their immersive exhibition galleries as well as two awards at the Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence Awards in March.

The Lincolnshire Tourism Excellence Awards, which is run by Visit Lincoln and Lincolnshire Live, puts spotlight on the people and businesses who contribute to the county’s booming tourism industry.
The 2020 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence event will be streamed live on visitengland.org and on YouTube on 17th August, starting at 7pm. This event is the culmination of the first awards cycle since the modernisation of the awards in March 2019.
