Lunchtime Recital with David Flood at Lincoln Cathedral
David is delighted to be able to present this programme to celebrate 40 years since he took up the post of Organist and Master of the Choristers at Lincoln Cathedral. He spent two highly enjoyable years here, with wonderful colleagues, before returning to Canterbury Cathedral in 1988 where he had been Assistant Organist.
While many recordings were made with the Cathedral choirs and overseas tours to America and Europe when the opportunity arose, it was always the daily sequence of services which was at the forefront of David’s attention. The regular performance to the many thousands of visitors and pilgrims was a great joy. David retired at the end of 2020.
Having studied with Gillian Weir and Jean Langlais, he now finds more time to give to the organ, which is a great pleasure.
He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music by the University of Kent in 2001 and he is an Honorary Fellow of Canterbury Christ Church University and a Visiting Fellow of St John’s College, Durham. He is an Honorary Fellow of St John’s College, Oxford, his alma mater. and is an examiner for ABRSM.
David’s programme includes
Carillon de Westminster – Louis Vierne
Variations on a Norwegian Folk Tune – Bjarne Sløgedal
Prelude and fugue in B minor – J S Bach
Pomp and Circumstance March no.4 – Edward Elgar
