Visit Britain announces new industry standard in development in response to COVID-19 to ensure that tourism is able to recover quickly.
Visit Britain has been working across the industry and with the UK Government to ensure that tourism is able to recover as quickly as possible once restrictions are lifted. Over the past weeks they have been talking to destination management organisations, including Visit Lincoln , about how we all best coordinate our destinations coming out of lockdown.
While timelines and clear guidance from the Government are key, Visit Britain recognises that a clear ask of them from the industry is to develop a common industry standard quality mark that would provide a ‘ring of confidence’ for tourism businesses, attractions and destinations, as well as reassurance to visitors that businesses have clear processes in place as restrictions are lifted.
While discussions are ongoing with the industry, plans include businesses completing a free online assessment to check they are taking the necessary steps to adhere to the official Government guidelines, and be provided with a quality mark they could use as well as a certificate that recognises they have gone through the process.
Alongside this, and following UK Government guidelines, Visit Britain would also like to see a major domestic campaign when restrictions are lifted to give reassurance to the public that it is socially responsible to travel.
Visit Lincoln welcomes this proposal and will be championing this ‘Stay Safe’ charter mark when it is rolled out. It is clear that consumer confidence is absolutely fundamental to recovery and we are urging all businesses to adopt and work with these guidelines when they are released. We believe that a standards-led approach which allows businesses and destinations to assess their ability to re-open under clear criteria, and development of a stay safe charter mark provides a clear path for both consumers and businesses; and will start to instill much needed confidence for both parties.
As part of this campaign Visit Lincoln will be providing ‘signage bundles’ for partners and businesses, to help prepare for re-opening. We will be sending out information on this over the next few weeks, along with information on partners can get involved with this project.
We welcome all suggestions from our partners; it is essential that we all work together to ensure we all adhere to industry standards and promote consumer confidence. Please do email us with your suggestions.
