Food & drink

Long before ‘local’ ‘seasonal’ ‘sustainable’ and ‘organic’ became buzz words, Lincolnshire was leading the way in living off the land and keeping old traditions and recipes alive. Food and drink in Lincolnshire is at the very heart and soul of our way of life.

Its specialities are not only devoured in the county but rightly popular across the country, from award-winning, tangy Lincolnshire Poacher cheese to the familiar peppery flavour of sage-flecked, coarse-ground Lincolnshire sausages and slabs of the succulent, marbled Lincoln red beef....this is proper English food.

It’s also ‘birthplace’ of stuffed chine salt-cured pork filled with green herbs, usually parsley.

Lincolnshire food & drink

Though it may sound like an April Fool, Lincolnshire is also home to an ostrich farm, Oslinc, producing lean, tender ostrich meat, large eggs and even feather dusters.

If you fancy something sweeter, Lincolnshire plumbread is a traditional treat made from dried fruit, brown sugar, cinnamon, cold tea and eggs. Try a slice mid-afternoon, at one of the many delightful tea rooms scattered around.

Tastes of Lincolnshire is a Lincolnshire County Council and European Union funded project encouraging people to choose local food and drink, and those using it and selling it to advertise their commitment. Look for producers, shops and farm shops, farmhouse B&B and guesthouses, hotels, pubs, cafes, restaurants and bars flying the Tastes of Lincolnshire flag.
