Market Rasen

unpretentious and traditional small market town

Market Rasen is situated on the River Rase on the western edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. There are a few Georgian buildings in the town but the architecture is mainly Victorian, the most impressive being the Centenary Chapel with its stone columns and brick façade.

Home to the only racecourse in Lincolnshire. Racing began at Market Rasen Racecourse in 1828 and came to its current site, a mile outside the town centre in 1924. It is a National Hunt racecourse owned and operated by Jockey Club Racecourses. The 1.25-mile jump racing course is a right-handed oval and Market Rasen is unusual in staging a year round programme of racing. It is set in a very rural setting with the backdrop of Willingham Woods. The racecourse also hosts big-name music concerts throughout the year and has its own caravan park offering the chance to stay onsite.
