It is thought that the Viking army settled in the village in the 9th Century. The village is also home to beautiful historic architecture, including 31 listed buildings.

The Viking Way is a high-quality, long-distance trail in England between the Humber Bridge, North Lincolnshire, and Oakham, Rutland.
