If you’re looking for easy, affordable and quirky places to stop in your motorhome, Louth is a must. Whether it’s just for the day exploring or to stay overnight, you can park up your motorhome in the town’s historic cattle market and pay online, making it the perfect way to explore one of the best kept secrets in the English countryside. No matter what time you arrive.
Louth Livestock Market offers the perfect location to park up your motorhome and explore Louth, this charming capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Louth’s historic Livestock Market is a great location for a “Pub Stopover”, with numerous bars, cafes, restaurants, music venues and places to eat easily accessible on foot. There is even a pub adjacent to the bottom end of the site, The Boar’s Head and The Brown Cow, just down Newmarket. Both aptly named for the market, within walking, but not hearing distance, if you’re seeking a peaceful spot.
“We are from Norfolk, our son rides motorcross and we were in between tracks at Doncaster to Louth. Nice and easy to find, plenty of room as we are in a lorry motorhome, nice n peaceful and my dog enjoyed all the sniffs.” Nicki Utting
So, why does the town warrant a stopover? Louth is a picturesque Georgian market town on the edge of the scenic Lincolnshire Wolds Natural Landscape, just a short drive from the county’s unspoilt sandy beaches. The meandering streets are dotted with splendid Georgian and Victorian houses, shops, and inns and its own beauty spot called Hubbard’s Hills with the River Lud for paddling and plenty of space for picnics. All would be impossible in a motorhome but happily Louth Livestock Market has no height or space restrictions and offers a handy park-up point within easy reach of town.
“We had prior been over on a small campsite at Sutton on Sea and so Louth was an ideal stopover on route to the show. Louth, we loved, small enough town to walk around, with shops and such a short stroll from the market area. While in Louth we certainly spend monies in the butchers, pubs (obviously) supermarkets and some of the smaller shops in town. So, while we appreciate safe and reasonable priced stopovers, we are not all doing it to save money.” Steve Tonks, Staffordshire
Weekly markets, originated in the 10th and 11th centuries, and run all year, starting early on a Wednesday, Friday and Saturday offering a wide range of stallholders selling some of Lincolnshire’s finest produce as well as gifts, practical ideas and the occasional bargain. Independent café bars and restaurants around the Cornmarket often take seating over the summer for al fresco dining, complementing the town’s independent retailers ranging from butchers, bakers, a legendary cheese shop and several large and well stocked supermarkets plus pharmacies, opticians, jewellers and everything you could want. The town was dubbed a “food mecca” by The Hairy Bikers, and now boasts an annual Food & Drink Fair as well as its own Food Map, rightly praised as one of the UK’s best-loved foodie hot-spots. Most definitely worth a stay.
As your motorhome approaches Louth, you know you’ve arrived when you catch sight of the town’s iconic St. James Church with the tallest parish spire in the country. Outside is a historic blue plaque marking The Lincolnshire Rising on 1st October 1536 where loyal Catholics rose up in protest against Henry VIII. 1st October has now been adopted as Lincolnshire Day to celebrate the county’s unique strengths in food and farming. The town’s Louth Museum is a wealth of information on the town’s historic past.
The site itself, Louth Livestock Market is Lincolnshire’s last remaining working market holding weekly markets selling cattle and sheep to support the region’s livestock farmers in a largely arable area. Markets are held every Monday and occasional Fridays. Motorhome stopover guests may stay any night of the week and are welcome to observe the working livestock market from a safe distance. You’ll find there is plenty of room and a choice of areas from shade to full sun. The site is cleaned after every market providing a huge car park and hard standing area, primarily unused six days a week. This makes the location the perfect serviced overnight location with immediate town centre access in just 2 minutes’ walk. There are occasions when events take place like a Fair and Fireworks, Annual Vintage Car and Tractor Rallies where it might not be possible to park, but these occasions are rare.
The site is surrounded by residential housing, making it a quiet and safe environment for your stay. The parking fee includes freshwater top-up and grey water disposal facilities. A CAMPrA funded black waste disposable facility is also available and bookable for a small extra fee.
There truly is something for everyone during a stopover in Louth with swim, gym and exercise classes available at Meridian Centre as well as live music in town and an excellent programme of events at Louth Riverhead Theatre. There’s even a choice of excellent Golf Clubs if you fancy getting a different kind of round in.

Louth Industrial Estate is even home to a distillery, microbreweries fantastic pizza, a co-working space and much more besides.
“We come from Grimsby and enjoy nights / weekends in Louth. Louth is a lovely place to stay with lots of shops / pubs. We have used the cattle market several times. It’s very reasonable. Very safe, very quiet and easy to book. We have also recommended it to friends that have also enjoyed staying there.” Paul Boggis, Grimsby
