Boston is a handsome market town dominated by the 14th century St Botolph’s church, known as ‘The Boston Stump’. With its incredible 272ft high tower, this is the largest parish church in England and presides majestically over the bustling market town. The tower is open for visitors to climb and if you have the stamina you’ll be rewarded by spectacular views – on a clear day you can even see Lincoln Cathedral which is some 32 miles away!
Boston Marina is just a short distance up river from The Stump and is open to leisure craft and motor cruisers. Visitors can hire pleasure boats Maritime Cruises to take out themselves or let someone else do the hard work and take a boat trip from the Grand Sluice. There are also regular sea trips into the Wash.
Nearby, don't miss the RSPB Friestion Shore Nature Reserve an outstanding example of environmental innovation. The Maud Foster Mill is the country's tallest working windmill - see it at work and climb to the top for some wonderful views.
Boston’s open air market is the largest in Lincolnshire and has been held for over 450 years. There is also a weekly open air auction on Bargate Green and a farmers market held the third Wednesday of every month. As for shopping, Boston has many high street names but also many family run and independent shops with a distinct character nestling in the attractive medieval shopping lanes radiating from the centre of town. A recent development is the Pescod Square shopping complex.
