Experience a captivating evening of Baroque music performed live in the magnificent, oak-panelled Great Hall at Burghley.
Spanning from 1600 to 1750, the Baroque period was a time of remarkable musical innovation from the birth of the orchestra to the emergence of opera and the concerto. It was an era defined by bold contrasts, ornate detail and emotional expression – all of which are on show in Baroque at Burghley's evocative programme.
You’ll hear some of the period’s most striking works, from the drama of Purcell’s Dido’s Lament to the jubilation of Handel’s coronation anthem The King Shall Rejoice. Vivaldi’s radiant Dixit Dominus opens the evening, while his much-loved Gloria brings the concert to a joyful close. Also featured is Purcell’s Chaconne in G minor – a piece that builds in tension and texture, growing in emotional power with every repetition.
