The Lincolnshire Artists Portrait Series exhibition at the Barbican Creative Hub is a celebration of the breadth and diversity of creativity across the county. From community artists and independent makers to internationally exhibiting practitioners, Lincolnshire is home to a wide network of creative practice that spans both traditional art forms and new, emerging modes of expression.
This new series of portraits features artists within their working environments – whether in a traditional studio or ‘out in the field’ – inviting viewers into the spaces where ideas are formed and work is made. Within these settings, we glimpse the accoutrements of practice: tools, materials, works-in-progress, traces of influence and inspiration. Together, these elements reveal each artist’s individual approach to creating a working environment that sustains their practice, whether decorative and richly layered or sparse, utilitarian, and functional.
Many of the artists included were nominated by their peers, reflecting the collaborative and supportive artistic networks that run throughout the county.
