Temporary closure on Route 1 (Water Rail Way) between Lincoln and Washingborough
A section of the Water Rail Way between Lincoln and Washingborough will be closed from 22 June to 31 October 2026. The closure covers an approximately 1.8 mile section between Waterside South, Lincoln and Ferry Lane, Washingborough.
Works include path widening and resurfacing, drainage improvements to reduce flooding, and accessibility enhancements.
(A fully traffic-free diversion is not available. A shared-use route is accessible via Washingborough village to the Eastern Bypass, and via Cherry Willingham and Greetwell Road to Lincoln along Monks Road)

The Water Railway Cycle Route follows the route of the former Lincoln to Boston Railway track alongside the River Witham.
Pass through Washingborough, Bardney and Southrey on the way to Kirkstead Bridge, travel into the village of Woodhall Spa or cycle on to Langrick Bridge and Boston. Enjoy beautiful views of fenland. Spot the sculpture trail on your ride and discover two viewing platforms over the banks of the River Witham offering spectacular views over the City of Lincoln.
