The 33 miles of the canal links Grantham to Nottingham and the River Trent. The canal opened in 1797 and was at its height of popularity in 1841. The last working boat on the canal was in 1929 and the canal officially closed in 1936. Today short sections are navigable while other sections are overgrown and dry.
