highlights & information
North Sea Observatory
The strikingly modern North Sea Observatory sits happily side by side with traditional beach huts. The café gives excellent views out to sea and across the wide sandy beach.
Mablethorpe
A traditional small seaside holiday resort with a notable Blue Flag beach and Seal Sanctuary. The town was visited regularly in the early 19th century by the Lincolnshire poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson and his family. At the time seaside holidays were not fashionable and it was considered a very odd thing to do.
Coastal Country Park
Between Mablethorpe and Skegness is the Coastal Country Park. It features a whole series of small nature reserves, including a new one that is being developed by the National Trust on an old golf course at Sandilands.
nearby
Alford
A small market town on the edge of the Wolds with a working windmill and a thatched manor house.
Gunby Hall, National Trust
Gunby Hall (NT) is a charming Georgian house and garden with Tennyson connections.
The path aims to stay as close to the coast as possible, occasionally the path heads inland but only for short distances. The path is well signed, look out for the distinctive acorn waymarkers. A new boardwalk now links two promenades by the newly-built North Sea Observatory at Chapel Point, Chapel St Leonards, improving accessibility for all.
